Winter at The Springs
The clear hot water springs is a bottomless pit. All efforts to measure the depth have failed. They do know that it is deeper those 1500 feet.

History
White men followed the Indian trails into the fertile valley of the steaming hot springs. In 1878 the army established Fort Lewis across the river from Pagosa Springs Colorado. The wild rugged old west era began. Cowboys, Indians, cavalry troops, along with stagecoach holdups, saloon brawls and gunfights became part of the history.
With the arrival of the rails, things changed. The new era of railroads, lumber mills and lumberjacks and logging, it was to last only 40 years.
Today it is hot water, tourist and real estate that drives Pagosa Springs economic engine.
In the heart of Pagosa Springs, Colorado is The Springs Resort. It is the largest and best known. It has two dozen soaking pools that are terraced on the banks of the San Juan River. Besides the hot springs Pool, Pagosa Springs is noted for its abundant of mountain activates. You name it, they have it.
The big winter magnet to the area is Wolf creek Ski Resort and snow, lots and lots of snow. So much snow that sometimes even the locals ask,”why so much snow.” The Wolf Creek Ski area motto is “The Most Snow in Colorado” Last year it received 465 inches, that 41 feet.
Pagosa Springs Colorado is a playful winter wonderland of outdoor activates. Besides the world class alpine skinning at Wolf Creek Ski Area, you can cross-country ski, snowshoe, snowmobile, in the best snow in Colorado. Then you can top off your day soaking in the natural hot springs pools.
In the summer it is the mountains and the mild alpine climate that draws the visitors to the valley.
Like all mountain town it has a myriad of outdoor activities. You can do the normal stuff like: hiking, jeeping, exploring ghost towns, rafting wild rivers, as well as, taking pictures of alpine meadows full wildflowers and waterfalls. . You can jeep, hike, horseback ride, or take an ATV in the backcountry while you fish or picnic by the streams.
